Before choosing the best time to visit Egypt, it helps to understand the climate. Egypt has a desert climate with with hot, dry summers and mild, pleasant winters. While rain is rare, the sun is strong year-round, especially around Cairo, where the pyramids are located.
There are four main seasons to consider:

Spring offers warm days and cool nights, ideal for those who want to avoid the cold of winter and the intensity of summer. Temperatures rise steadily but remain comfortable, averaging between 20°C and 30°C (68°F to 86°F).
If you’re looking for a time with fewer tourists but still want good weather for sightseeing, spring is a great choice. It’s also when Egypt’s landscapes start to bloom, adding a bit of greenery to your pyramid backdrop.

Summer in Egypt (June to August): Challenging But Rewarding for the Brave
Let’s be honest—visiting the pyramids in summer can be intense. Daytime temperatures can soar well above 40°C (104°F), making midday sightseeing difficult.
That said, if you don’t mind the heat and plan wisely, summer can be a rewarding time. Crowds are minimal, and you’ll find great deals on hotels and tour packages.
Stick to early morning or late afternoon visits, bring plenty of water, and consider hiring a local guide who knows how to beat the heat. Adventurous travelers or those on a budget might still find summer a good fit for their trip to Egypt.

Autumn in Egypt (September to November): The Golden Season for Pyramid Tours
Autumn often gets overlooked, but it’s one of the best times to visit Egypt, especially if you want to avoid both the peak winter crowds and the summer sun.
Temperatures begin to drop back into the comfortable range, and the golden autumn light makes for beautiful photos—especially at sunrise or sunset over the pyramids. Fall is also when you’ll find fewer tour buses, making for a more peaceful visit.
This season is great for travelers who value mild weather and a bit more breathing room during their Egypt tour.
Events and Festivals Near the Pyramids: Plan Around Cultural Moments
While there aren’t many festivals held directly at the pyramids, planning your visit around national events can enhance your trip. The Sun Festival at Abu Simbel in February and October draws large crowds and showcases Egypt’s ancient engineering genius.
Although it’s not at the pyramids, many visitors combine a trip to both sites during their stay. Holidays like Ramadan and Eid may also affect opening hours and crowd sizes, so it’s good to research in advance.
Weekday vs. Weekend: How Crowds Change During the Week
Tourism at the pyramids doesn’t just vary by season—it changes throughout the week. Weekends (Fridays and Saturdays in Egypt) tend to be busier, with both locals and tourists flocking to Giza.
If your schedule allows, plan your visit for a weekday morning to avoid the rush. This simple adjustment can turn a crowded photo-op into a quiet, immersive experience—especially helpful if you're visiting Egypt for the first time and want a stress-free tour.
Tips for Visiting the Pyramids at the Best Time of Year
No matter when you go, a little preparation goes a long way:
- Arrive early to beat both the crowds and the heat.
- Wear light clothing and bring sun protection, even in winter.
